Scientist, Neuroimmunology
Job Description

Company Summary

Annexon Biosciences is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a new class of complement medicines for patients with classical complement-mediated autoimmune, neurodegenerative, and ophthalmic disorders of the body, brain, and eye. The company’s pipeline is based on its platform technology addressing a broad spectrum of well-researched classical complement-mediated autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases triggered by aberrant activation of C1q, the initiating molecule of the classical complement pathway. Annexon is advancing a portfolio of innovative product candidates designed to block the activity of C1q and the entire classical complement pathway: ANX005 (intravenous administration), ANX007 (intravitreal administration), and ANX009 (subcutaneous administration). Annexon is deploying a disciplined, biomarker-driven strategy designed to improve the probability of technical success of its portfolio.

Desired Candidate Profile

We are seeking a Scientist with a background in Neuroimmunology and/or Molecular and Cell Biology. Qualified candidates will have experience in drug discovery, target validation, biomarker assay development, cell and animal models, and gene expression modulation using genetic tools, such as RNAi, ASO, CRISPR or AAV. Further, they should have a track record for being able to scientifically rationalize, develop and execute assays towards the goal of mechanistic understanding.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Design and execute study projects towards target validation, assay development and screening for therapeutic lead identification, in vitro and in vivo proof-of-concept studies with minimal supervision.
  • Supporting collaborative efforts with academic labs and with external CROs to drive new technologies and execute on project deliverables for programs.
  • Working independently as well as collaboratively in a matrixed environment, with excellent laboratory skills in biochemical, molecular and cellular, and/or functional assays.
  • Work with Annexon’s various functional teams and groups to contribute to IND-enabling/Proof of Concept studies with selected CROs.

  • Mentoring junior scientists within Research team.

Key Qualifications

  • 4 years’ academic or industry experience post PhD is required.
  • Experience in animal models of CNS disorders is required, especially in rodent models of neurodegenerative disease.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and applying fit-for-purpose biochemical, molecular and cellular, histological and/or functional assays to address biological questions and apply in drug discovery efforts.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to take on new challenges, with excellent personal and scientific communication skills.
  • Experience in drug delivery, PKPD, biomarkers, flow cytometry, genetic tools for modulating gene expression, and cell-based assays are desired. Experience in omics profiling and analysis would be a plus.
